Who needs a DGFT DSC?
Any business with an Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) that signs applications on the DGFT portal. The certificate is issued in your organisation's name, as a signature certificate, to the person who signs for it.
A DGFT DSC is not the same as a Class 3 certificate. Class 3 is for income tax, GST, MCA (ROC), EPFO, trademark and e-tender filings; the DGFT portal needs its own DGFT certificate. See all certificate types.

Questions
Can I use the token I already have?
Yes. The certificate is downloaded onto your existing token; add an mToken only if you don't have one.
How long does it take?
Approval can come in as little as 30 minutes after you finish verification; it depends on the Certifying Authority.
Is it for individuals?
No. DGFT certificates are issued to organisations only. For your own income tax, GST or MCA filings, choose a Class 3 certificate.
